Bug reflects on honesty and confidence.
Bug has been harboring a pretty dark secret and while her intentions were never malicious, we’ve spent a lot of time talking and we’ve decided that as her campaign for park mayor ramps up it’s important that she’s completely honest with the people who look to her for guidance and inspiration. As a role model for several major pop stars, Bug is passionate about not setting them up with unrealistic standards.
When I first met Bug in February 2022 she had just moved to New York from Arkansas and like many big moves, it inspired more change than just a zip code. Bug has always been interested in style and self expression and when she moved to New York she dove headfirst into the Brooklyn punk and DIY scenes. The music wasn’t really her thing and she was too young to get a tattoo but she loved the colorful hair and decided to give herself highlights to fit in.
Even though Bug felt more at home in above ground and daytime focused activities, she was so thrilled with the way her hair looked she decided to maintain it and before long, she had a signature look. Much like doodles getting their classic curls from amazon clown wigs, Bug’s white paws didn’t come naturally.
When I first found out that Bug’s paw dip is a dye job I was more shocked than disappointed so I know the initial reaction from her fans will be emotional. I was upset that she didn’t think she could be honest with me right away but when I asked her about it she confessed that she just never saw a good time to bring it up. We were just getting to know each other and she had no idea that she was actually a hair dye prodigy and her toes looked so realistic I would never imagine questioning them.
Her wake up call came when Bug first saw dogs walking around in paw covers. It broke her heart to realize that she singlehandedly changed puppy toe beauty standards and I’m so proud of her for sharing that she dyes her paws in a local birdbath. She knows that while her paws are a unique and impressive choice, they aren’t what make her beautiful, it’s the joie de vivre she carries them with. Even though her bone structure and naturally magnetic personality can’t be bought, it’s important for the neighborhood dogs to know that even Bug works hard to maintain the look that gets her on the cover of magazines.
Finally, I wanted to leave you with this: even though to the outside world Bug is effortless and effervescent, at home she likes to wear a doodle wig just as much as the next dog.
