The weather has finally started to settle at officially warm and Bug Anne Hamilton was spotted in the streets of Brooklyn in a brand new outfit taking local dogs by a storm.
I had the chance to talk to Bug about what inspired her to shed her classic red and black look for a lightning hot shade of blue and it comes down to keeping people on their toes. “Style is a conversation,” Bug explained, “and it’s also about not having a conversation and blue is more of a statement than a conversation.”
I asked her what statement she hoped to make in blue and she explained, “blue is the color of walks because the sky is blue and the garbage cans are blue, I’m also inspired by Scooby-Doo and I hope that when people see this color they want to give me sandwiches.”
For such a young dog on the scene, it’s been shocking to watch her outfit choices have such an effect on Greenpoint dog culture. We discussed the other trends she started and the dangerous fads that have been linked back to her. Last fall several dogs were found smuggling bleach to dye their feet white but she expressed almost no remorse, “beauty is pain and white toes look so cool, so I understand why they did it and I’m proud of them.”
As our conversation continued, we discussed what people should and shouldn’t be wearing this year. “People wear too many clothes,” she explained. “Every time they leave the house they wear tops and bottoms, at once. It’s excessive and surely it weighs you down. Try wearing less stuff but also possibly long capes.”
Finally, I asked Bug if there are any trends she’s identified but hasn’t quite caught up with yet and she quickly informed me that she has never followed a trend she’s only created them. I inquired about her attempted perm last month she told me it had nothing to do with trying to look like a poodle and it was actually about creating a proper foundation for her adventure hat, which she successfully did.
